Drug – It is defined as any man-made, natural, or endogenous (found inside the body) molecule that has a biochemical or physiological effect on the cells, tissue, organs or organisms.
Substances that have medicinal properties are called pharmaceuticals.
Pharmacology comprises of :-
- Drug composition and properties
- Drug design and synthesis
- Cellular & Molecular mechanisms
- Organ/system mechanisms
- Signal transduction/Cellular Communication
- Molecular diagnostics
- Drug Interactions
- Chemical Biology
- Drug therapy
- Medicinal Application
- Anti-pathogenic Capability
Pharmacology is further divided :-
Pharmacodynamics :- It is the study of the effects that the drugs have on the body.
Pharmacokinetics :- It is the study of the effects that the body has on the drugs (Metabolism of the drugs).
